creating new realitys

in the past, people have always been fascinated by other realitys than their own, or new atmospheres and locations. a reason why travelling and exploration was so popular, always wanting to discover and learn about new things,a popular way that people used to try and gain this for those that could not travel, was the panarama, where they would be able to walk into a dome that was covered in paintings or projections to try and gain a new reality. now at present day,This has now later devloped into film, one of the first films was Man with a camrea by Vertov, which devloped into what film and tv is today. The element of taking the person away from their reality and creating a new one. This has been used in many ways, even using the orginal reality and showing other peoples versions of reality (movies and tv soaps e.g ) or creating entirelly new ones such as Avatar. also to try and enhance the feeling of being absorbed into the films, they have started to devlop the 3D technology and become more mainstream. aswell as media, it effects all aspects of entertaiment, as the elements of trying to create new realitys are incorprated into many diffrent ways. in art such as optitcal illusions, street art, the pavement drawings that create a diffrent dimension [exisitingvisual.com] and in games, they have tryed creating alternatate realitys such as secound life, which is also interactive, so that you can share the experience with other people, giving it another level that makes it seem more real to the user. Another way to make people get absorbed into other realitys is by making games interactive, such as xbox live, with games such as meetmilo and the playstation having technology to make you appear and react more with the game.

Photography ideas

After thinking about the task, of finding photographs that involve digital media within the areas of Work, Rest and play, i came up with a rough idea of a traffic light colour scheme, the work having a red colour splash, and Rest having an orange/amber colour splash and Play having a green colour splash, this is for the visual aspect of the photographs.for the content of the photographs, I was inspired by this one photographer that liked the idea of how people use the exact same living space in an apartment bloc and different each space ends up due to the personality of the individual. The photographer is called…(cant remember name as of yet). for my project, i thought i would adapt this idea, on how people have the same access to digital media but adapt it for their needs and uses. the main concept is that i will get 10 different people and see how they use digital media to suit them in the areas of work,rest and play. i like this idea, as i can get both content and creativity. I mostly concerned with the design element and thought that it would be difficult to gain digital media photos which is visually good and not mundane, which it is easily to fall into the trap when involving static objects.

Anaylising websites interfaces

i decided to anyalise the website www.perezhilton.com.

When looking at the website, the first impression that you gain, is the brightness, as it uses a pale pink and outlined with flushes of hotpink as the background. There is a long section at the top of the page that is just purely for branding. It uses a mixture of images and text as apart of the branding, The text stays the same throughout the site as that is the main logo and branding of thewebsite, however the image changes to add some varity to the website.

There is a left sidebar (narrow bar) which is interactive with the user, as there is a introduction of the site, and area to be able to contact the website and a instant link to email them, the website uses some elements of mashup, as there is a translator tool by google. There is also a search/query tool, that is data driven to that you are able to search for specific articles by either certain people or dates it was published. Then down the rest of the left sidebar are links to simlar websites,links to other parts of the site regarding information about it and also advertising specific to the nature of the website. There is also a RRS section, which is a possible mashup, as it enbales users to subscribe to the blog.

in the main core elements of the website, which is a large area,it is made up of many blogs,at the top, is the title and the data of the catorgory of the blog which is also active, so you can click a catorgory and it will then give you a narrow search of blogs in that catogory. The blog also features image and text, the area that the text is in is white, which makes it clearer to view the text, it also has hyperlinks to main words in the text which is in pink - to run with the theame of the site. At the bottom of each individual blog, there is a link for users to comment on.

on the right side bar, which is a narrow bar, there bar called ‘perez TV’ and has a selection of pictures that link you to the videos. the rest of the right side bar is then filled with advertisment.

vigilant to the new unreality of digital media

After reading how a photoshopped picture of binladen on the blog and how it had caused so much trouble, it reminded me of an article that i had read on some photoshopped images which have tryed to sway public opinion in their favour, however then found out, how the images are fake and have been manipulated with photoshop, and these images can even become mainstream and effect the opinions of the public based on lies. digital media is a powerful tool, which can be mis-used and therefore people need to be vigilant and aware of it.

Host choice

I wanted to have a decently priced domain, so looking at the hosts with a lower price scale I then decieded to choose www.one.com as the host site,after hearing that there were issues with www.UK-cheapest.com.

I had to think carefully over the domian name, as it is important part of the site and apart of the branding.I needed to take into consideration of other factors as trying to make it simple and catchy, so that it is more memorable. Also it means that people are less likely to spell it wrong when trying to rememeber it.
i choose the domain name of: www.jessikah.co.uk
